Classic ASP
Active Server Pages (ASP) is a language developed by Microsoft to allow users to create dynamic websites hosted on Windows servers. It was released in 1996 and then sort of superceded by another very different language called ASP.net in 2002. Although the two languages are very different, because of the similarity of name the original ASP has become known as Classic ASP.
Since then dozens of other web development languages have been created, each claiming to be faster, more secure, more efficient and easier to use than the last.
But here's the thing - there are still millions of websites built on ASP running today, and some people are even still using it to build new sites! I am - this site runs on Classic ASP.
Classic ASP Help
You may well have arrived on this page because you have an old legacy website, extranet or some other web application which runs on ASP, and you need to make some changes to it or for some reason it's stopped working. Perhaps you've asked a web developer to look at it and they've recoiled in horror at how old the technology is and quoted you huge amounts of money to build you a completely new system.
Perhaps they're right - if your booming business needs something scalable to cope with millions of requests which will work for the next couple of decades then you probably do need to get a new system.
But if you just want it to work for a couple more years until you retire etc, then there may be no reason at all that you need to upgrade - you just need a little help to keep your system ticking over. That's where I come in.
Who am I?
I started work with Plexus Media in the Scottish Highlands around 1997, picked up a book on ASP, started building websites and I've been doing so ever since. Over that period I've built thousands of sites for thousands of clients, all on Active Server Pages. I'm still building them today, and almost every day I learn something new about ASP's capabilities.
I'm not a designer - I don't really have an artistic bone in my body. I program content management systems and extranets. I'm an expert in HTML, CSS, SQL for websites and Classic ASP. I have some JavaScript knowledge. I can set up and manage a Windows server.
I'm not up to date - I have no idea what modern languages do, and I can't even program in PHP which is as old as ASP but runs mostly on Linux servers. But if you have a Classic ASP problem then I can probably help.
